The IUPsyS Monthly Bulletin is for IUPsyS National Members, Affiliates, and related organizations, and their members. It provides brief updates on the work of the Union and related regional and international matters.

1. Submission of bids to host the International Congress of Psychology in 2020

 
The decision on the host country for ICP2020 will be made at the Union Assembly meeting in July 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa. Any country wishing to submit a bid must submit a letter of intent to the IUPsyS Secretary-General as soon as possible, and provide a draft proposal by 2 April 2012. All draft proposals received by that date will be considered by the Officers of the Union who will provide feedback. For further details, see:

 2. IUPsyS 2012 Assembly: advance notice
The 2012 Assembly will be held in conjunction with the International Congress of Psychology in Cape Town, South Africa. The Assembly will be held over two sessions: Monday 23 July 13:00 to 18:00 and Wednesday 25 July 14:00 to 18:00. A formal convocation announcement providing further details will be sent to all National Members shortly.

3. International Congress of Psychology (ICP 2012): Register now
 
ICP2012 will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, 22-27 July 2012, under the theme Psychology Serving Humanity. The deadline for abstract submissions has now passed, but there is still time to submit rapid communication posters (deadline 1 March). The deadline for reduced registration fees is 1 April.  4. International Science Council (ICSU) appoints a new Executive Director
 The International Council for Science has appointed Dr Steven Wilson as its Executive Director. Dr. Wilson, who has a doctorate in Chemistry, will take up his duties on 1 April 2012. He moves from his position as the interim Chief Executive and a Director at the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). For further details see:

 5. International Science Council (ICSU) publishes report of regional Rio+20 workshops
 
ICSU and UNESCO have run five regional workshops involving natural scientists, social scientists and engineers from across each region to explore issues of global sustainability. The workshops aimed to inform planning for the forthcoming UN Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development. The synthesised report of the five workshops is available at:

 6. Call for Nominations for Klaus J Jacobs Research Prize in Youth Research and Development
 The Jacobs Foundation has invited IUPsyS to nominate a candidate for the Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize 2012. The prize, in honour of the Jacobs Foundation’s late founder Klaus J. Jacobs, is awarded annually and recognises outstanding scientific contributions of individuals aiming to improve young people’s development and perspectives worldwide. The prize is endowed with One Million Swiss Francs. Suggestions for nominees, to include a name and short biographical details, should be sent to the Executive Officer, Dr Nick Hammond (email at the foot of this Bulletin), by 14 February 2012. 7. Psychological Society of South Africa marks its 18th Anniversary
 
Congratulations to the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA) which marked its 18th anniversary in January 2012. PsySSA was formed during the transition in South Africa in 1994 and preceded its first democratic elections by three months. The PsySSA leadership and membership invite psychologists the world over to celebrate this momentous occasion at a special celebration during ICP 2012 to be held in Cape Town this July.

 8. Association for Psychological Science (APS) Global Observer

 
The Association for Psychological Science’s (APS) monthly online publication, the Global Observer, is now publically available at the link below. The web page will update each month with a new edition:

 9. Francis M Culbertson Travel Grant for women from developing countries: deadline imminent

 
The American Psychological Foundation (APF) is still accepting applications for the 2012 Francis M Culbertson Travel Grant, which supports travel to conferences for women from developing countries who are in the earliest stages of their careers. The deadline for applications is 15 February 2012. Further details at:

10. APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology

 
The APA's Committee on International Relations in Psychology is seeking nominations for the 2012 Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology. This award recognizes distinguished and enduring lifetime contributions to the international cooperation and advancement of knowledge in psychology. Candidates may be from any country and need not be APA members. The deadline for applications is 1 June 2012. Further details at:
